Hi Book Dragons!

I don’t know about you, but being a big book nerd, I love all things about organizing my books, my TBR, and planning my upcoming reading! It’s easy to get excited about great new books being released. I’ve got a handful of books that I’m looking forward to and want to mention them to put them on your radar!

Please be aware this is by no means an exhaustive list, and these are based on my personal taste and opinions.

Here are some books and authors I’m excited about:

The Book:

A Sea of Unspoken Things by Adrienne Young (January 7) - “In this captivating atmospheric novel a woman investigates her twin brother’s mysterious death while confronting the ghosts of her own haunted past. “

Why I’m Excited:

I read Adrienne Young’s book The Unmaking of June Farrow earlier this year, and it was wonderful. A story about generations of women in the Farrow family with some great magical realism involved.

The Book:
The Note by Alafair Burke (January 7) - “A chance encounter with a pair of strangers leads to a drunken prank that goes horribly awry for three friends with a complicated history.”

Why I’m Excited:

I recently heard an interview with Alafair Burke on the Criminal Types podcast. She discussed that when she was a young girl her family moved to Wichita, KS in the midst of the BTK serial killer attacks. Just knowing Burke is a hometown girl with a fascination with BTK is enough in common to make us BFFs!

The Book:
The Heart of Winter by Jonathan Evison (January 7) “The extraordinary new novel about a married couple in their golden years, from when they met across big ups, deep downs, and survive-it-all, opposites-attract love.”

Why I’m Excited:

I read Evison’s novel This is Your Life Harriet Chance and absolutely loved it. It was a great character-driven story about the ups and downs of a life lived. I expect his new novel The Heart of Winter will be just as charming.

The Book:
Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney (January 14) - “A dark thriller about marriage…and revenge. As Grady Green calls his wife Abby to share some good news, he hears her slam on the brakes, get out of her car, and then nothing. A year later, Grady is still overcome with grief and desperate to know what happened to Abby. When he travels to a tiny Scottish island to try and get his life back on track, he sees the impossible - a woman who looks exactly like his missing wife.”

Why I’m Excited:

Alice Feeney is an automatic buy author for me - I don’t even need to know what the book is about! I have not read her entire backlist yet, but I have dubbed her the queen of plot twists.

The Book:
Witchcraft For Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix (January 14) - “They call them wayward girls…and they’re sent to Wellwood House in St. Augustine, Florida, where unwed mothers are hidden by their families to have their babies in secret, to give them up for adoption, and most important of all, to forget any of it ever happened. One of these wayward girls meets a librarian who gives her an occult book about witchcraft, and power is in the hands of these girls for the first time in their lives. But power can destroy as easily as it creates, and it’s never given freely. There’s always a price to be paid…and it’s usually paid in blood.”

Why I’m Excited:

A few years ago I listened to The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires, and absolutely LOVED it! It was funny, it was spooky, it was dark and scary in places! Hendrix is also an automatic buy author. His stories are quirky and funny, while also being dark and disturbing.

I hope this gave you some new books to look forward to! Let me know what new releases you’re excited about! Let me know in the comments or by connecting with me on Instagram or over in our Facebook group.

Until next time, fellow book dragons, keep those pages turning.
